How could God use LT to transform my life?
There’s a life-transforming power in living in community with other believers who are taking steps of faith and obedience and pursuing a deeper relationship with God. As we learn together and see each other put into practice what we’re learning, we’ll all be encouraged and sharpened like in Proverbs 27:17 and Ephesians 4:15-16.
LT is not about theory but learning the nuts & bolts about how to love God, love people and be a leader for Him!
What are some more highlights of LT?
Where will I live?
For the full LT experience, we encourage you to live in sublets with other LT’ers (ideally whole housing units that are composed exclusively of LT'ers) and cook/clean/do-life-together. We’ll help you by giving you recommendations on how to plan meals for the week, coordinate shopping, cooking, doing chores - basically everything to make the experience the best it can be.
What if I already have an apartment or house on campus?
You could sublet it only to LT’ers for a full LT experience, or if you have roommates they could find other sublets and probably make more money by putting multiple LT’ers in their rooms.
I’m concerned about finding a place to live. What if I don’t really know anyone or sign up late?
We’re going to maintain a list of sublets - most with just LT’ers and some without - and help connect you with other LTer’s and work through housing issues, e.g. if you fill up an apt but more people from your lifegroup want to go to LT, we could help put you in touch with another sublet that has more capacity and the two sublets could swap - with each one changing their per-person-prices accordingly.
Where will I work during LT?
You’ll find a job in Ann Arbor for those 6 weeks. We’ll help you by contacting employers before LT and telling you about job openings we hear about, as well as coaching you through the job search process, but the ultimate responsibility to secure employment is up to you. (Temp agencies may be a good resource if you’re thinking of just working for 6 weeks instead of all summer term or all summer.)
The University typically hires many students for the summer, and you also could look into internships for your major with the U or companies in the area.
What if I don’t want or need to work? I heard I could volunteer. What’re my options?
To be part of the LT program, each student will need to be involved in taking classes and studying, working or volunteering for at least 32 hours per week.
We’d love to have LT Volunteer Track options (depending on the interest-level) for: community service in Detroit, NLC building construction/ renovation, NLC advertising, and other ministry-related volunteering.
Couldn’t I just live in Ann Arbor and come to part of LT or whichever LT events I want?
For LT we want to create a more intense, consistent discipleship community of students who are committed to following God and helping each other in this pursuit. The more connection people have with each other, the more they interact and take steps of faith, the more growth and life-change will result.
To accomplish this, we’ve designed all of LT to fit together -- all of the retreats, all of the small groups, all of the outreach events and all of the teaching & worship sessions.
Because of this, LT events will only be open to full LT participants unless announced otherwise. However, we will have special prices that non-LT’ers can pay to attend the LT kickoff retreat (if spots are available) as well as the LT main sessions. However, it’ll be significantly less expensive to be an LT participant than to put some of those packages together. FYI, there will still be New Life Church Sunday services during the summer along with a Summer NLT meeting and small groups for non-LT’ers.
Why would I want to go to Ann Arbor LT if I’ve already been to Virginia Beach LT?
For yet another summer, you’ll be able to grow more in your relationship with God, in character and in discipleship with your friends -- AND the following:
